— Pre & Post Instructions
Surgery Instructions
Before Surgery
Arrange for a responsible adult to drive you home — you cannot drive on the day of surgery.
Do not eat or drink anything (including water) for at least 4 hours before your procedure unless instructed otherwise.
Continue taking all regular medications unless specifically instructed to stop. Bring a list of all medications.
Do not wear eye makeup, perfume, or cologne on the day of surgery.
Begin prescribed pre-operative eye drops as directed, usually 1–3 days before surgery.
After Surgery
Use prescribed eye drops exactly as instructed — these are essential for healing and preventing infection.
Wear the protective eye shield at night for the first week to prevent rubbing the eye during sleep.
Avoid rubbing or touching the eye. Do not swim or use a hot tub for 2 weeks.
Avoid strenuous activity and heavy lifting (over 10 lbs) for 1 week after surgery.
Attend all scheduled follow-up appointments — typically at Day 1, Week 1, and Week 4 post-surgery.
Before Surgery
Arrange transportation — you will not be able to drive on the day of your glaucoma procedure.
Continue all glaucoma eye drops on your usual schedule unless specifically told to stop.
If you are on blood thinners, notify the office — adjustments may be needed before surgery.
Fasting requirements will be provided at your pre-operative visit depending on the type of anaesthesia planned.
Begin any pre-operative drops or medications as instructed by Dr. Patel’s team.
After Surgery
Use all post-operative eye drops as prescribed — antibiotic and anti-inflammatory drops are essential.
Protect the eye — wear the shield at all times for the first day, and at night for 1–2 weeks.
Avoid bending, straining, or heavy lifting for 2 weeks. These activities can raise eye pressure.
Do not swim or submerge the eye for at least 4 weeks after surgery.
Report any sudden pain, severe redness, or significant vision change to our office immediately.
