Standard Cataract Surgery

Phacoemulsification is the gold standard in cataract surgery. Using ultrasound energy, the clouded natural lens is gently broken up and removed through a small incision, then replaced with a clear intraocular lens (IOL).

The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia and typically takes 15–20 minutes. Most patients notice improved vision within 24–48 hours.

Laser Cataract Surgery

Laser-assisted cataract surgery (FLACS) uses a femtosecond laser to perform the most precise steps of the procedure with computer-guided accuracy — reducing the need for manual instruments.

The laser creates the incisions, softens the cataract, and prepares the capsule with exceptional precision, resulting in more predictable outcomes especially when combined with premium lens implants.

How do I know if I need cataract surgery?

If cataracts are significantly affecting your daily activities — driving, reading, or recognising faces — surgery may be recommended. A comprehensive eye examination will determine the extent of your cataracts and whether surgery is appropriate.

Is cataract surgery painful?

Cataract surgery is performed under local or topical anaesthesia. Most patients feel no pain during the procedure. Mild discomfort or a gritty sensation in the days following surgery is normal and resolves quickly.

How long is the recovery?

Most patients see improvement within 24–48 hours. Full visual stabilisation typically occurs within 4–6 weeks. You will have follow-up appointments to monitor healing and vision progress.

Which lens is right for me?

The right lens depends on your lifestyle, visual needs, and ocular measurements. Dr. Patel will guide you through each option at your consultation, recommending the lens that best suits your individual circumstances.

Will I still need glasses after surgery?

With a standard monofocal lens, you may still need glasses for reading or near work. Premium lenses (multifocal, EDOF, toric) can significantly reduce or eliminate the need for spectacles for most activities.
