Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT)

Low-energy laser pulses stimulate the trabecular meshwork — the eye’s natural drainage system — improving fluid outflow and reducing pressure.

Glaucoma Laser FAQs

Is SLT painful?
Most patients experience minimal discomfort during SLT. You may feel brief flashes of light and mild stinging. Anaesthetic eye drops are used beforehand. Post-procedure discomfort is usually mild and short-lived.
 
 
SLT typically takes 4–8 weeks to achieve its full pressure-lowering effect. Your pressure will be checked at follow-up visits to assess the response and determine if additional treatment is needed.
 
 
 
 
For many patients, SLT can reduce or eliminate the need for eye drops. In some cases, drops may still be required alongside laser treatment. The goal is always to achieve safe pressure control with the fewest side effects.
 
 
 
 
 
SLT typically provides effective pressure reduction for 3–5 years in most patients. The treatment can be safely repeated when the effect diminishes. Some patients require only one or two treatments over many years.
